About Us

The studio is operated by Nathanael Kooperkamp and Walker Blackwell. These two artists come from different backgrounds (Photography and Printmaking). Over the years they both helped develop some of the leading print processes in the world today and they continue their innovative work at Prints On Paper.

Our innovative printmaking approach fosters an adaptable, inclusive, and accessible studio environment. Artists from diverse backgrounds, locations, and mediums are cordially invited to engage in this groundbreaking endeavor.

The studio’s guiding principles emphasize inclusivity and a welcoming atmosphere. It serves as a platform for learning and knowledge exchange, fostering a collaborative environment where creativity and hard work intertwine. Our mission is to address the challenges faced by artists, producing exceptional print objects while striving to establish a reliable, dependable, and safe production space that can be trusted for years to come.

Nathanael Kooperkamp, a printmaker, papermaker, bookmaker, and teacher, has honed his skills across various mediums. Trained in traditional printmaking, his work spans the history of the art form while infusing it with a digital twist. Kooperkamp’s journey led him to the most rewarding aspect of the art world: collaborative master printmaking. After completing his master’s degree in fine arts at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, he immersed himself in the hand papermaking process at Dieu Donne Studio in Brooklyn.

Later at Cone Editions Press, he supported diverse artists, from idea to final product, using traditional techniques with contemporary technologies to expand the studio’s capabilities. Kooperkamp’s enthusiasm for tradition and collaboration continues at Prints on Paper Studio, where he innovates new processes, honoring the medium’s history while embracing digital advancements.

Walker Blackwell (he/him), a collaborative printmaker, teacher, and inventor, has been at the forefront of the digital printing industry since 2004. Specializing in monochromatic inkjet, he coined the term “pigment print” in the early 2000s to describe mechanically produced pigmented inkjet prints. A founder of Black Point Editions (Chicago) and co-founder/funder of Latitude Chicago, Walker has collaborated with renowned artists worldwide to create unique works. He often adapts new printing techniques on the fly to meet the specific needs of artists or prints. As the lab coordinator for Light Work residency in Syracuse, New York, he transformed the space into a modern facility. Later, he became the head innovator in the fine art printing industry. Walker has taught printing techniques for over two decades, both in community workshops, one-on-one sessions, and at the university level. Teaching and learning are integral to his practice as a printmaker and artist, and he continues this tradition at Prints On Paper.

Turnaround

Our safety margin for turnaround is two weeks. However we generally turn prints around much more quickly! For gravure printing our turnaround time is dependent on how complex the work is and how long the oil ink takes to dry so that can be up to 3 or 4 weeks.

All jobs can be rushed for a fee TBD on a case by case basis.

Packing & Shipping

We offer global shipping services, with competitive rates for UPS and USPS packages within the US. For international shipping, we prefer USPS for Canada and FedEx UPS Express Saver, DHL, or GlobalPost for Europe.

We typically securely flatpack and ship small prints up to 30”x40”. For larger prints, we roll them around a rigid tube, bubble pack the tube, and place it in either a triangular or rectangular box for shipping. For large edition work, we crate the prints. We also offer LTL shipping using SEKO LTL.

We interleave our prints with non-buffered archival glassine. All packing undergoes rigorous quality control and is inspected by the same individuals who made the prints.

Files

All files stored at Prints on Paper Studio are securely protected from unauthorized distribution or access by third parties.

Upon the client’s request, files can be securely deleted.

Files are delivered to the client via a download link from Google Drive.

Files uploaded to us are directly uploaded to a secure Google Drive storage container.

Non-layered production files can be provided to the client or artist upon written request from the client or artist, and only the client or artist can access these files.

We generally do not distribute master files, as they remain the intellectual property of Prints on Paper Studio.

Payments & Billing

For contract printing, work is produced only after an invoice or estimate is generated and payment is received. Modifications to contract printing after payment may incur additional fees.
For in-studio production days, these are non-refundable and must be paid before arriving at the studio. If changes are necessary, we can reschedule the day or apply the amount paid to contract printing or other services we offer, including group workshops.
For workshops, the total amount is due at the time of signup. For more details, please visit our workshop page.
For very large projects, a 50% security deposit is required.
For special paper projects, a minimum deposit is necessary to cover the cost of materials and profiling before work is completed.
For publishing projects, we generally donate our time and labor, but the artist or gallery covers the material fees. The profit from the first few sales of work is then split accordingly between PoPS and the artist to cover the material fee and labor costs. If the material costs are significantly higher (e.g., gold leaf) compared to the labor (e.g., small print in a limited edition of 4), the artist will receive a larger share of the first sales profit. This arrangement is also contingent upon any funding agreement with a gallery or other institution.

Split Payments: All invoices we send can be paid in installments by simply typing in the amount you wish to pay (up to the total). This allows you to split payments among individuals, pay off a bill over time, or pay your maximum credit card limit each day.

Payment Methods: We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex, cash, and checks. We also accept PayPal. However, we particularly prefer Zelle, Venmo, and ACH transfers because these methods do not charge us a 3% fee on every transaction.

Vermont Business Sales Tax Exemption: If you possess a Vermont Business Resale Tax Exempt certificate and your work is intended for resale, kindly present it to us. We will retain the certificate on file, exempting you from sales tax charges.

Institutions of Higher Education and other Businesses: Non-profits, educational institutions, and other businesses are billed on a NET30 schedule.
