Overview

During this four-day intensive photogravure workshop, we dig deep into the medium. You begin with a set of ten plates made from your images and start printing on the first day. As the workshop goes on, you make a second batch of plates, responding to the prints you’ve already pulled. It’s the best way to learn how to image for a low-contrast medium like gravure.

It’s a print-focused workshop, and the goal is to leave with a substantial number of prints. It isn’t a complete guide to building a plate-printing studio, but it gives you a solid foundation in traditional printmaking techniques applied to our digital gravure plates, plus the Photoshop skills that low-contrast media need.

What you’ll learn

  • Ink making
  • Multi-plate printing
  • Chine-collé
  • À la poupée
  • Printing on a range of papers
  • Photoshop for low-contrast media
