Workshops

Photogravure Workshops at Prints on Paper offer immersive and practical instruction, encompassing both fundamental and advanced techniques. These workshops utilize state-of-the-art plates to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the photogravure process.

During this four-day intensive photogravure workshop, we delve deep into the intricacies of this unique medium. Participants begin with a set of ten pre-made plates and immediately start experimenting with various gravure printmaking techniques on the first day. As the workshop progresses, attendees get the opportunity to create a second batch of plates, reacting to their already-printed images. This hands-on experience helps establish best practices for imaging low-contrast mediums like gravure.

The workshop covers a range of complex techniques, including ink making, multi-plate printing, Chiné-Colle, À la poupée, and various papers. Attendees gain a broader understanding of the medium and learn from a professional studio. As a print-focused workshop, the goal is to leave with a substantial number of prints. While it’s not a comprehensive guide to building a plate-printing studio, it provides a solid foundation in traditional printmaking techniques applied to our digital gravure plates created at Prints on Paper. Additionally, participants learn essential Photoshop skills for working with low-contrast mediums. The techniques and knowledge gained during the workshop empower participants to thrive in their art practice.

Each attendee also has the option to do a free studio setup remotely with us after the workshop if they desire to print their plates DIY. Remote studio setups are the best way to get plate printing running. And it’s best to be know how to pull prints from those plates first by taking the four day workshop here.
