From one day to several weeks
A contract residency is time in our studio, set aside for you and your project, and we scale it to the work. It can be as small as a day or two, or as big as several weeks of full production. Skip the talk, jump to scheduling ->
Small projects and large ones
A DAY OR TWO is plate-making and proofing. You send files, we make your plates, and we pull proofs together, so you leave knowing exactly how the work prints. Plates and proofs are set up for editioning afterward, and editioning can be done remotely if that suits you better than staying.
With A FEW WEEKS we go full tilt. You work alongside us in the studio on collaborative production, from plates through proofing to the full edition run, with the finished prints in your hands when you leave.
Plenty of projects fall in between. Tell us what you have and we will build a residency that fits.
What a residency is
Our staff give you their full attention for the length of your stay. You have the run of the studio, and you watch your prints come off the plates and presses as they are made. That changes how the work goes. You can edit as you go, talk through every decision with the printmakers, and leave with the prints in your hands rather than a proof in the mail.
What’s included
- Full studio access for the length of your residency
- Our printmakers and staff working with you day to day
- Photogravure and digital pigment printing, including full editioning
- Discounted prints made during your residency
- New technology developed for your project when it needs it
Who it’s for
Residencies suit artists, galleries, and institutions with serious printing to do: a large exhibition, an edition, a portfolio, or a series that has been building for years. Collaboration can be as light as a short conversation about each print, or as close as working side by side for the whole stay.
How it works
- Tell us about your project and when you’d like to come.
- We reply to find dates and talk through the work.
- We prepare files, plates, and materials ahead of your arrival.
- You arrive and print, or we proof and you edition remotely.
How we quote
Every residency is scoped individually, depending on its length, the process, and the size of the edition. We don’t keep a price list because no two projects are alike. Send us the form and we’ll talk it through. The studio takes no share of future sales of the work you make here. Occasionally we also arrange a mixed residency that combines contract printing with a publishing project. Those are worked out well ahead of time, case by case, and are separate from a standard contract residency.
Stay in the artist house
Our artist house sits directly across from the studio. Ask us about staying there during your residency, when there is room. You will want a car; Cabot is rural.
Schedule your residency
Tell us what you’re working on and when you’d like to be here. We’ll reply within a few days to find dates and talk through the project.
