One to two months in the studio

A fellowship is time on site, working alongside us and learning the whole studio. It goes a step beyond an internship. Applications are rolling. Skip the talk, jump to applying ->

Why we started it

Over the past year, remarkable artists have come to us wanting to deepen their understanding of printmaking, learn how the print industry works, or find out whether collaborative printing is part of their future. We’ve formalized that into an on-site Fellowship.

It goes a step beyond an internship. You live here, work here, and become part of the studio community.

What you’ll do

Fellows take part in every part of the studio: making plates, preparing files, working with artists, and of course packing. Over one to two months you’re exposed to contract residencies, print production, workshops, publishing, and more. Many of these skills carry over to other corners of the art world.

You work alongside our staff during the day. Once you’re trained and comfortable, you can print your own work after hours and on weekends.

What the studio provides

  • Materials, covered by the studio in exchange for your help during the day
  • Training across plates, files, printing, and production
  • After-hours and weekend access to the studio once you’re trained
  • Lunch during workshop and residency weeks
  • A letter for your university, funder, or leave request, on request
  • For students, the paperwork for a for-credit internship

Where you’ll live

Fellows stay in our artist house, a three-bedroom home directly across from the studio, fully renovated in 2024. The studio subsidizes the rent, and fellows contribute up to about $1,000 per month toward it.

The house is shared with workshop attendees and residency artists when they’re visiting, so you’ll be living in the middle of the studio’s community. You’ll want a car; Cabot is rural.

Who should apply

All kinds of artists are encouraged to apply. You might be a printmaker, a photographer, a graduate student, a professor on leave, or simply someone arts-inclined who wants to try this world, and Vermont, for a while. Our fellows are doing serious work and learning a great deal, and we’re looking for people who want exactly that.
