In-Studio Production

One of the most economical ways to collaborate with Prints on Paper Studio is to join us in-house. When artists work in the studio, they have the privilege of witnessing the work being printed. This facilitates edits, viewing of the results, and an exclusive dialogue with our in-house master printers. This collaborative approach fosters a genuine partnership between the printer and the artist.

When an artist is in the studio, the staff treats it as a residency day, dedicating all their expertise and passion for printing to the artist. The artist is given complete access to the studio, and any prints made that day are discounted. This is an economical way to have boots on the ground while still allowing the masters to focus on their work. These days can be used for large exhibitions, editioning, creating a portfolio, or working through a series. Dedicating time to one’s production can be a truly rewarding way of working. These production days can be treated as a residency, allowing the artist to remain immersed in the process of ink on paper.

Collaborative Printing

Prints On Paper is a collaborative print studio specializing in digital pigment and photogravure processes. We offer full editioning capabilities and are open to inventing new print technology when necessary, as we’ve done in the past. Collaborative printing doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive; it can be as simple as a quick conversation with the artist about each print or project. Over time, we develop a better understanding of their work and communication becomes more efficient.

We apply our collaborative approach to both new and traditional printmaking techniques, recognizing that print is print is print. As a collaborative studio, we engage in both publication work with artists and studios and contract for artists and studios.

For artists we’ve selected to publish ourselves, we collaborate pro bono to produce the work. The publication may involve collaborating with the artist’s gallery or another institution for promotion and sales, or it may be sold directly through our studio or the artist. For contract work, the collaboration remains the same, but the artist, gallery, or institution funds the labor of creation, and the studio doesn’t take a cut of any print sales in the future.
