Considered Rembrandt’s most striking etched landscape, this image is chock full of figures from foreground to horizon. While making this plate and working at a pixel to pixel level on the lines, we discovered even more figures that we’d never seen before on the original print! It’s worth a hard (ish) wipe in the shadow area to bring out the foreground pond.
This 1:1 scale plate of the work enables anyone with a printing press the ability to print an exact etching of the original. We hope through this manual process, time, inking, and looking, that the depth and meaning of the work and one’s relationship to it can become both physical and personal in the hands of the printmaker.
